Li Jingmai is the son of Li Hongzhang, a Qing diplomat. Li Hongzhang, the Viceroy of Zhili, was a prominent politician who balanced foreign demands with loyalty to the Qing Dynasty. Koroskovich acted as Li Hongzhang's Russian-Chinese bodyguard, frequently accompanying him and his son, Li Jingmai, during diplomatic missions in the late 19th century.
