The library at Quinta Patino, the estate of Bolivian tin tycoon Antenor Patino in Portugal. The room, a replica of a hall in the library of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, is paneled in gilded wood, with carved pilasters flanking the doors and bookshelves. In the middle of a large carpet originally woven for Louis XIV is an 18th-Century French writing table encrusted in copper and tortoiseshell, accompanied by a tasseled backless tabouret de duchesse seat by Foliot. Gilded chandeliers provide light. The door to the adjoining room is flanked by a pair of embroidery-upholstered chairs, and by matching wall-mounted pendulum clocks.
