A hoya shaped lid rest is one of the seven kinds selected by the great tea master Sen no Rikyu and also regarded as the most esteemed lid rest.
The “hoya” refers to a cover for incense burners or braziers. The origin of the hoya shaped lid rests is said that Rikyu used an incense burner with a hoya cover instead of a lid rest.
