This early to mid-twentieth century lidded basket is bundle-coiled from tan-colored longleaf pine needles (Pinus palustris). The base is a squat, globular form decorated with three flowers embroidered in raffia and commercially dyed red for the petals, yellow for the centers and green for the leaves. The lid is circular with a central top knob and decorated with three raffia flowers. Such baskets by Coushatta (Koasati) makers have endured as popular Louisiana souvenirs.
