This is an unusually large circular Makah trinket basket or sewing basket. The form was developed around 1900 for the tourist trade. The materials are cedar bark and bear grass. The basket has a plaited start but then becomes twined, predominantly with bear grass. The twining on the walls of the basket is wrapped twining. There are four butterflies in commercially-dyed colors of purple and blue on the body walls. (Lid is not pictured)
