Chung Tai-fu graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1981 where he developed his enthusiasm for printmaking. In 1990, he obtained a M.F.A. degree in printmaking, majoring in etching, from the Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music in Japan. Chung is the recipient of Award of Discovery, Seymour Art Gallery, Vancouver in 2005, Silver Award of Tokyo International Print Exhibition in 1993, Printmaker of the Year Award from the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild in 1992 and Printmaking Award in Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial in 1989. He has participated in numerous solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Taiwan and Canada and his works have been collected by various institutions and private collectors. According to Chung, every single work of print is unique, but at the same time existing in multiple copies, to be admired and collected by persons separated by time and locations. This dual quality of process inseparable from outcome may be the antidote that balances the crisis of illusory virtual reality, which plagues contemporary art.
