The Life Guards is the senior regiment of the British Army and part of the Household Cavalry. At 84cm high, this boot is an example of the thigh length boots which were worn as a part of their uniform. The boot is made of leather, wood and brass, and dates from the 1850s. The maker is unknown. The boot is photographed with its original wooden last to support its height and structure.

  • Provenance: This object is a part of the Cordwainer College Collection held in the London College of Fashion’s Archives. The collection contains over 600 items of footwear, all of which were collected as teaching and learning aids over the life time of the Cordwainers College. The Collection covers the period from c1670 to 1990s. It consists of Western male and female footwear, examples of non-Western footwear, juvenile and orthopaedic pieces, and includes prototype, prize and exhibition footwear, lasts and tools. A number of pieces are unfinished or cut to show technical details, or show alterations or repairs.
