United Kingdom

Cork lifejacket with canvas covering, as worn by survivor of the Titanic disaster. Two out of four ties are cut off short. It is likely that the ties were fastened around the front with bows, and the jacket removed by cutting the ties under the armpits. Recovered from a survivor from lifeboat No. 9 by 19-year-old waiter on Carpathia, Ernest St. Clair (1893-1982).
