The Philips Protector lamp is a blackout lamp and was used during the Second World War to have a bit of light in the home during blackouts. The entire globe is painted black, with just a small opening at the top. If it was possible to completely cover the windows during the evening hours, this lamp was no longer needed and a normal light bulb was used.
