This model of a 4,500-ton light cruiser was the third to bear the name of this renowned naval officer. It had 6 guns, 4 of which could fire on both sides, and was 462 feet long with a beam of 47.5 feet and a draft of 15.5 feet.

It was built in Ferrol and launched in 1922. It escorted the airplane ''Plus Ultra'' on its transatlantic flight and took part in operations such as the Alhucemas landing. It was also sent to the Far East to join the international demonstration in Shanghai in 1927. The light cruiser sank in an accident in 1932 while engaged in naval maneuvers. Fortunately, its crew of 346 men was unharmed.
