The Lime Avenue at the Gibberd Garden in Harlow Essex. The avenue was inherited with the Edwardian bungalow Sir Frederick Gibberd purchased near Harlow in Essex and he notes, 'I get a lot of credit for Newman's Lime Avenue, but all I have done is to turn it into a space and dramatise its form. I started by getting a tree surgeon to remove huge side branches to let light in. A dull area in full shade then came alive through side lighting on the bare trunks. I now strip the trunks twice a year of shoots and keep the feet clean.'
