Linda Eastman (1867-1963) was appointed Librarian by the Library Board after William Howard Brett's death in 1918. Born in Oberlin, Ohio, she was educated at Cleveland's West High School and the Cleveland Normal School. She supervised the building of twenty-six branch libraries and the construction of the 1925 Walker & Weeks Main Library building. Eastman started many specialized services for children, adults, the handicapped and the hospitalized. She was instrumental in building the library's extensive collections materials created by regional and local artists funded by the WPA arts programs.
