Around 1495, in Milan, Leonardo wrote this list in sanguine (red chalk): forty names of authors and titles of books, perhaps jotted down on the occasion of a brief trip to Florence. These are mostly incunabula in the vernacular: historical, literary and linguistic texts, moral and religious pamphlets, and some books on medicine and natural philosophy.
