Liza Grobler was Social Fabric artist-in-residence. We profile some of her other artworks. Liza's artworks are conceptual but informed by unusual use of materials and craft techniques. This performance involved crochet with cat tail, an invasive plant that takes over bodies of water. The plant had traditionally been used to weave baskets but it has been replaced by plastic. The artist dressed in the traditional dress of the Quinceanera in order to allude to both the local tradition and the many fairytales in which a girl in distress has to sew/weave/labour to redeem/save herself.
