Colour postcard showing the London Hippodrome. It was originally built for Edward Moss as a Hippodrome for circuses, and had a vast tank for water spectacles. In some shows, the stage curtains would open to reveal a jungle scene, with an enormous waterfall most of the height of the proscenium arch. At the top of it elephants would appear and then slide down into the tank.
