One of today's most innovative designers, Arad combines sculptural and functional forms with unusual and unexpected materials to produce visually and physically provocative works of art. London Papardelle, named for Arad's adopted home and a type of pasta, is a distinctive example, employing woven patinated bronze to create a simultaneously rigid and flexible chair and foot rest. Arad is fascinated by process, exploring shapes that transform from one surface or line as it materializes into another, frequently made from unconventional materials such as sheet metal, car seats and Corian™. London Papardelle's woven bronze, usually employed for commercial conveyor belts, flows from chair back to seat to foot rest, which can be manipulated to create an undulating line of metal.
