London has constantly re-adapted to embrace change. We are on the cusp of a Fourth Industrial Revolution as London evolves from a place of production to a place of human interaction. This transformation is characterized by a fusion of technologies that blur the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres. In its scale, scope and complexity, this new era will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before. We need to ensure that rapid technological progress enriches — rather than erodes — the quality of civic life.
We have invited ten of the UK’s most innovative practices — Hildrey Studio; WestonWilliamson + Partners, 5th Studio; dRMM; Foster + Partners; PiM Studio; 8FOLD; Egret West; Assemblage and IF_DO — to put forward propositions to help London become a paradigm of urban living in the 21st century. The result is a ten-point manifesto to make modern London a place where humanity can thrive.
