Long-Nosed Monkey

A long nose like this is bound to get you noticed. And that’s what this chap wants: impress both females and enemies. If an enemy approaches, he honks. When it does so, its normally limp nose stretches straight ahead. This probably also enhances the sound.

Proboscis monkeys are only found on the island of Borneo. They have a long tail, a round tummy and webbed feet. Proboscis monkeys always live near water, particularly in the mangrove fields on the coast or in marshland and forests along the river further away. They are excellent swimmers. Individuals have been ‘fished’ far out at sea.
