A combination of gold couching embroidery and grid-making embroidery was used for the motifs on this pouch while chain stitches for the hem. The gold couching technique usually applies to the edge of patterns, either already embroidered or not yet embroidered, by paralleling stitches of two strands or one single strand of gold threads (two strands more often used), beautifying or balancing the overall color effect of the motifs. The outlines of all the figures, cranes, pavilions, terraces and creeks on this item were done with parallel gold thread stitches, giving the motifs a sense of grandeur and splendidness.
