There is probably not a Glassblower in the world today who could copy the loop decoration on this beaker with such delicacy. It is the work of a virtuoso, who no doubt invested a great deal of time and effort before he was able to make an Object like this. The Glass will have forced him to work very quickly – otherwise the rapidly cooling threads would have solidified before he had the chance to shape them. The effort was worth it: as soon as the artist had mastered his technique, he could make a large number of these luxury products in just a short span of time. How the master won the race against time before the Glass cooled remains his secret. He presumably did not pass it on, for the beakers of this kind, preserved in fragments, are extremely similar to one another. As far as can be told from the fragments, blue and colourless threads always alternate. The Düsseldorf beaker is the most complete specimen in this group. (Dedo von Kerssenbrock-Krosigk)
