Like many artists of his generation, Maturana is motivated by vehement improvisation. On many occasions, his painting has been the result of fortuitous chance impelled by passion and sentiment that have been constants in his life since he was a child. He formed part of the Generación 80 with Samy Benmayor, Omar Gatica, Ismael Frigerio, among others, which sought to restore the aimless playfulness of art. He has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world.
