This scene from the life of the Lord Buddha depicts everyday life of Bangkokian citizens along the Chao Phraya River. In the upper panel, we see the Lord Buddha giving a sermon at a temple. Below the temple, there is pond which seemingly reflects symbols of everyday life in the flood plain region of Bangkok. Buffalos take a moment to drink water as their images are reflected in the pond, and within the pond itself we see lotuses and creatures unique to the Chao Phraya River: freshwater prawn, snake fish, and archery fish. Although these freshwater creatures inhabit rivers, not ponds, the mural artisans are presumably documenting their own personal memories of their lives in the area around the Buddhaisawan Chapel of the Front Palace.
