<treasure no. 352> The Lotus Sutra, along with the Avatamsaka Sutra, two of the most influential Mahayana sutras, had a major influence on the establishment of Buddhism on the Korean peninsula. This particular manuscript, rendered in silver on dark blue paper, is the seventh book of the seven-book Lotus Sutra. A note at the end of this book specifies that it was made as an offering to a temple by Gakyeon in the 19th year of the :reign of Emperor Hongwu of Ming China (the 12th year of the reign of King U of Goryeo, 1386 C.E.) as a commission for Lady Kim, wife of Lord Juksan, who had been introduced to Gakyeon by Gakbo. Length : 1081cm.
