Based on other images from this time period, this photograph is estimated to have been taken between 1955-1960. There is a possibility that it was taken by Louise Jefferson when Armstrong performed in Ghana. Jefferson a frequent visitor to Africa, was known to have traveled to Ghana. Images in her personal manuscript collection include Ghanian motifs, symbols, images by Ghanian artist Kofi Antebaum. Antebaum, whom Jefferson befriended, designed the presidential seat and mace for Ghanian president Kwame Nkrumah.
