Louisa Garrett Anderson with William and Garrett, c.1915. Louisa Garrett Anderson (1873-1943) was the daughter of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Britain's first woman doctor. Louisa was a surgeon and suffragette. Together with Flora Murray, they set up three women-run military hospitals: two in France and one in England. Endell Street Military Hospital in London was the most successful, and was the only army hospital run entirely by women. This photograph was probably taken in 1918 because of the military-style uniform and the Royal Army Medical Corps badges on the lapels. Louisa is photographed here with her dogs, William and Garrett.
