While the Devil Laughs, 1921
This autographed postcard in Fox Film Corporation's Famous Cinema Star series portrays 26-year-old a seductive Louise Lovely in her Hollywood period. Her hair is crimped in the style made popular by her rival, Mary Pickford. This portrait was taken to promote her movie While the Devil Laughs, in which Lovely played a hostess in a seamy New York café – a cover for a stolen goods operation run by 'fence' McGee. New York society magazine Vanity Fair reproduced autographed publicity shots for a growing number of movie fans.
