In 2009, The artist chose three of the most representative Long March poems by Chairman Mao, namely, Long March-Qilv, Mount Liupan-Qingpingle and Loushan Pass-Yiqin’e, as the subject of her embroidery piece in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
These three poems portray the Red Army’s conquering of the Loushan Pass during the Long March, reflecting the poet’s composure and optimism while facing hardships and temporary failures. Using the depiction of sceneries to express innermost feelings, these poems have been seen as masterpieces of Chinese poetry. Meanwhile, the calligraphy with the subject of the three poems have also been well-received with the free-flowing, rigid- and elegant- combining strokes.
Based on a carefully-designed composition, the embroiderer adopted various types of stitches so that she managed to fully transfer the artistic conception of calligraphy onto the embroidery.
