National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

A small woven string bag with a leather strap covered with cowrie shells attached with a small bundle of twigs and a metallic bell on one side. It is made by old women and used by young unmarried men to attract girls. The small bell is a spirit bell that a young man jingles and calls the name of the girl he loves several times. It is supposed to cause a sort of telepathy to make her think and fall in love with him. The bundle of sticks are used if the owner has a rival for the girls affection. He can talk to the sticks and magically cause his rival to faint. The rival is expected forget his love for the girl. The bundle of sticks is later ignited and held under his nose to ensure he does not pursue the girl further.
