This oil painting shows the right-angled bend in the Lower Pool of the Thames at the Rotherhithe Peninsula, from which the river runs south to Millwall along the Limehouse Reach. Docks, wharves and warehouses can be seen on either side of the river, and Thames between them is filled with a variety of vessels, including several steam-powered tug boats.
