Lucy Stone was a prominent abolitionist and women's rights activist in the 19th century. She fought for the emancipation and enfranchisement of African Americans during and after the Civil War. Stone is known for her role in founding the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). "I Take Her Paper" refers to the Woman's Journal, which was founded in 1870 by Lucy Stone and her husband Henry Brown Blackwell.
