Ludovico and Madonna Beatrice

Palazzo Pretorio e Casa Boccaccio

Palazzo Pretorio e Casa Boccaccio
Certaldo, Italy

The drawing was followed at the invitation of the national body Giovanni Boccaccio to appear at the exhibition 'homage to G. Boccaccio' held in Certaldo in 1967. The exhibition catalogue identifies the scene as Salabaetto and Biancofiore. subject of the novella X, giornata VIII del 'Decameron' by G. Boccaccio, but the piece reported by the artist on the verse of the sheet does not belong to this novella. In this work concise and robust signs of china and charged 'taches' of color, evoke barely perceptible pieces of the narrative reality, which, led by the stratification of memory, are combined to form a tight and dense painting fabric, cubizing, which still feeds on the abstract-informal experiences of the fifties.
