Pablo Palazuelo’s oeuvre is characterised by its enormous coherence. The lines that separate the different areas of the pictorial space also function to bind them together and the composition as a whole seems to be constructed according to the laws of fractals. These works, including the examples in the Colección Santander, reveal an absolute sobriety and economy of means and are based on a palette of black and white.
In 1986 Palazuelo executed a series of gouaches entitled Lunariae. They take the form of drawings of broken, straight white lines and zones of the same colour against black backgrounds. He subsequently produced a series of etchings in the same style and using the present title, Lunariae, as illustrations to poems by Max Hölzer.
