With an unerring eye for details and signs, Walker Evans focused on this charming advertisement painted on the side of a lunch wagon. A man and woman on a lakeside outing pause to eat sandwiches in their car beneath a menu advertising Hamburger Steak and Onionsfor thirty-five cents. In the upper right is a pretty, etched-glass windowpane, a delicate touch out of place amidst the more utilitarian trappings of the itinerant restaurant.
