Luo gauze with lozenge patterns

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

This is a piece of Luo gauze with lozenge patterns from the Warring States period. The lozenges surround a deer-like creatures, above which is a tree-like form with five branches. Interestingly, the pattern should exhibit vertical symmetry, but a weaving error occurred in the lower part of the lozenge motif, suggesting that the loom had multiple heddles.
