The LZ-129 Hindenburg was a hydrogen-filled zeppelin airship that was first launched in March 1936. The 804-foot rigid airship was specifically designed for intercontinental passenger transportation, carrying 1,002 passengers on round trip flights between Germany and the United States. The Hindenburg crashed on May 6, 1937 while landing at Lakehurst, NJ. Thirty-six of the 97 passengers aboard were killed. This disaster marked the end of rigid airship use for commercial transportation. (1/40 Scale Replica)
