Stone plaque made of greenstone that was probably placed at the ceremonial square of Tenochtitlan to commemorate the enlargement of the Templo Mayor; it was inaugurated during the reign of Ahuízotl. Chroniclers narrate that magnificent ceremonies were held due to the inauguration, when several prisoners were sacrificed. The calendar date “8 Reed”, which corresponds to 1487, when the renovation works were finished, can be seen at the bottom of the stone. On the top of the stone, the images of Tízoc and Ahuízotl, the rulers in charge of the enlargement of the Templo Mayor, were carved. They are shown offering their blood to the Earth; between them there is a bale of hay where the bloody knives of the self-sacrifice were inserted. Arqlga. Bertina Olmedo Vera
