An Avenue in Andalusia or The Maja and the cloaked Men

This Goya cartoon, which is now at the Prado Museum, was presented on August 12, 1777 to make tapestries to decorate the dining room of the Prince and Princess of Asturias at the Royal Palace of El Pardo.

Of the three that were produced, the one now in Santiago was the first and highest quality. It was woven using a high-warp loom and dates from September 28, 1784.

The piece came from the estate of Don Pedro Acuña y Malvar. He had acquired it from Don Fernando Gomendi, who had bought it at public auction with other works from the same collection.
