Giuseppe Pellizza (Volpedo, 1868–1907) honed his Divisionist technique in the early years of the 20th century with works and series on the subjects of love, life, work, and death. Membra stanche shows a family of migrant seasonal workers stoppingto rest along the way. The swirling clouds seem to reflect the winding course of the river Curone, while the Alpine crags are imbued with expressive power akin to that of the figures in the foreground, who are immersed in their innermost feelings.
