To emboss hundreds of metal address plates, St. Luke clerks operated this Chicago-made Graphotype machine. The finished plates were then loaded into the Graphotype's counterpart, the Addressograph, where an inked ribbon would press the individual name and address of St. Luke members into envelopes. This process eased the practice of mass mailings.
