C. W. Bampfylde’s skill and ingenuity in the field of hydraulics was perhaps best exemplified by his design for a penstock c. 1770. Later publicized by fellow soldier, Lieutenant Colonel William Dansey, in Transactions (1790) the advanced device also found royal favour at Virginia Water.
