This Model A Pitney-Bowes Metered Mail Machine was an enormous benefit to the office force of the St. Luke Hall. The machine applied metered postage and also sealed envelopes. For an organization spread over half the country, the St. Lukes relied on this device to help reach their massive membership base. When Mary White Ovington, co-founder of the NAACP, visited the St. Luke Hall in 1927, she noted this very machine was in use, processing 2,000 envelopes a day.
