Tommaso del Mazza1390/1395

High Museum of Art

High Museum of Art
Atlanta, GA, United States

A Florentine artist of the early Renaissance, Tommaso del Mazza was influenced by the work of such masters as Agnolo Gaddi and Jacopo di Cione. Until recently, much of del Mazza’s work was attributed to the Master of Saint Verdiana, whose name derives from the inclusion of this figure in this altarpiece. Here the Virgin and Child appear as a celestial vision to the group of saints that includes Saint Verdiana, Saint Catherine, Saint Nicholas, Saint Dorothy, Saint Anthony Abbott, and Saint Julian.
