The statue - one of the most venerated in the city of Trento - decorated the ancient main altar of the church of Santa Maria. Having survived the renovation of the altar, during the 16th century it was subjected to irreversible mutilation in order to adorn it with fabric clothing. Of the original figure, only Mary’s head and the Child have survived.
