Simone MartiniThird decade of the XIVth century

Fondazione Musei Senesi

Fondazione Musei Senesi
Siena, Italy

The painting has lost the golden leaf on the background, but still is so preciuos in the details of the punchings and dress decorations. Note the tender rapport between mother and son, expressed in gazes and caresses as the baby - robust, in contrast with Mary's silm and elegant proportions - holds a small swallow in his little hand, like a toy.
