Madonna with Child and Saint John (known as Madonna Bolognini)

This panel is part of the series of Madonnas with Child that mark Correggio's youthful work.
The influence of Leonardo is evident both in the sfumato and in the more noticeable sentimental inclination, through the complex poses of the figures. The architectural backdrop on the left of the painting closes off the scene and contrasts with the landscape, contributing to the complex play of light that continues in the figure of the Virgin, with her mantle shading part of her face.
Moreover, the figures appear to be completely integrated into the landscape thanks to the notable colour references between the yellow lining of the mantle and the touches of light on the veil and on the foliage of the tree behind the Madonna.
