This is a rare depiction of Lord Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi, standing together on a lotus. Typically, the two of them are shown with Vishnu seated or reclining on the five-headed serpent (Adisesha) and Anantasesha. Goddess Lakshmi, by herself is always shown seated on the lotus but on this occasion, the artist allows his creativity to take wings.
At the bottom of all the calendar you will notice mention of the three mill locations - Madurai, Ambasamudram and Tuticorin. The clubs built by Madura Mills in these locations were designed by Geoffrey Bawa (from Sri Lanka) and were a serene depiction of the town’s ethos during that time.
