The large panel Cimabue-esque style, once at Badia a Isola (Monteriggioni), is the most challenging and fascinating artwork of an unknown Sienese master (the so-called "Master of Badia a Isola") active at the end of the XIIIth century by the workshop Duccio of Buoninsegna. The influence of Giotto is demonstrated by the construction of the marble throne, a concrete, three-dimensional volumetric efficiency, and the austere presentation of the characters in a tone of delicate solemnit where still many Byzanthin elements still survive.
