Ha Bik-chuen, born in China, started making prints and sculptures since 1960. He is a self-taught artist and has always been enthusiastic about art. As the founding president of Hong Kong Sculpture Society, he endeavored in the areas of Western painting, Chinese painting, sculpture, photography and print-making. He loves printmaking as much as he adores sculpture. That is why he has been spending all his years in creating prints in relief as an alternative manifestation of his sculptural works. Ha Bik-chuen manipulates easily accessible objects such as wood, leaves and rope to create his printing plate, and completes his prints combing collagraph with relief printing, injecting sculptural qualities to the two-dimensional printing surface. To Ha, flexibility, creative potentials and rich textual variations achieved are some of the attractions he finds in such kind of printmaking.
