The Magnecorder SD 1, built in 1946, was the only wire recording device with which high-fidelity quality studio recordings were possible. At that time, the tape recorders developed in Germany with their superior plastic tapes were known in engineering circles, but only a few devices were actually in use. High-quality studio tape recorders were only introduced to the market between 1948 and 1950. The Magnecorder SD-1 made its way into this gap.
