Maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji (1895–1966) ruled the state of Nawanagar, succeeding his uncle, Maharaja Ranjitsinhji, in 1933. Digvijaysinhji presided over India’s Chamber of Princes, and was one of two Indian delegates who held seats on the Imperial War Cabinet. After the war, he became independent India’s delegate to the United Nations, where he served as deputy leader of the Indian delegation; he also served as chair of the United Nations Administrative Tribunal from 1950 to 1951, to name but few of his official functions. He was awarded numerous British and Indian honors of the highest order, and in 2011 was decorated posthumously with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
